This beautiful, tranquil stream, which would appear to be a fisherman's paradise, has no fish. Drainage from abandoned mines has made it an unsuitable environment for aquatic life. But there is hope, work is being done to change all of this.

The Catawissa Creek, with its origin somewhere in Luzern County, is approxamately 36 miles in length, (possibly as high as 42 miles). It flows flows into the North Branch Susquehanna River near Bloomsburg. which eventually empties into the Chesapeake Bay. Mis-named the "Sulfur Creek" for decades, this stream has the potential to become one of Pennsylvania's top trout streams, and possibly stimulate an economic boost in the surrounding area. Its name means "growing fat" in Indian.
